They went to Brazil and they get credit for discovering the Bossa Nova. A guy named Charlie Byrd and he had a bass player named Keter Betts. There was one other thing that happened in Washington, DC that was pertinent. I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with him for three years in the Herbie Hancock Sextet. He's never afraid to take chances and, by doing so, he sets himself free to play something fresh and new.
